WE AT MY BOOK ADDICTION AND MORE WOULD LIKE TO WELCOME CASSANDRA CHANNING AND MR. BLYTHE,CHARACTERS IN MARYLU TYNDALL’S, “SURRENDER THE DAWN”….
From the author’s webstie:
I grew up on the beaches of South Florida loving the sea and the warm tropics. But despite the beauty around me, I always felt an ache in my soul–a longing for something more.
After college, I married and moved to California where I had two children and settled into a job at a local computer company. Although I had done everything the world expected, I was still miserable. I hated my job and my marriage was falling apart.
I knew about God, had been to church most of my life, but I believed if I followed Jesus, my life would be dull, frigid and lifeless. I craved adventure and all this world had to give me. What I didn’t realize was that the path I chose away from God took me away from the exact thing I dreamed of and sent me spiraling down the road to destruction and agony. I was empty inside, searching for something to fill the void in my life. I knew in my heart that there must be something more to this world, must be some reason I was here. My first marriage failed and many lives were affected by the breakup of our family.
Still searching for purpose, adventure and true love, I spent my late twenties and early thirties doing all the things the world told me would make me happy, and after years, my children suffered, my second marriage suffered, and I was still miserable.
One day, I picked up my old Bible, dusted it off, and began to read. Somewhere in the middle, God opened my hardened heart to see that He was real, that He still loved me, and that He had a purpose for my life, if I’d only give my heart to Him completely.
I had written stories my whole life, but never had the confidence to try and get any of them published. But as God began to change my heart, He also showed me that writing had been His wonderful plan for me all along. Even though I was still working full time, He gave me the means to write a book, an agent, and a publisher willing to print it. And anyone who has ever tried to get published knows that any one of these things is a miracle in itself.
I am now living the adventure I had always sought. My life is filled with purpose and love and I give all the glory to God. Many other miracles have happened in my family since I gave my life to Jesus, and all I can say is I truly look forward to every day.
To God be the Glory!

WELCOME, CASSANDRA CHANNING….
Mr. Blythe, editor for the Baltimore Register, June 1814:
Welcome, today we have the privilege of interviewing one of Baltimore’s
finest ladies, Miss Cassandra Channing. Miss Channing’s father, God rest his soul, was the owner of Channing Shipping until he died a patriot in the war. Miss Channing, the war has certainly taken its toll on you and your family. I understand both your brothers have gone off to Canada to fight as well.
Cassandra (misty-eyed): Yes that is correct, sir.
Blythe: How ever are you managing with only you, your mother, and two younger sisters? I hear every privateer in town turned you down as an investor.
Cassandra (pursing lips): Indeed, there seems to be some male-ego-satiating, Neanderthal rule about women investors bringing back luck to the ship. (Tight smile) But you are mistaken, sir. Not every privateer turned me down.
Blythe: (snickers): Every honorable one.
Cassandra: Mr. Luke Heaton may be many things, sir, but he is a good privateer. I expect many returns from my investment
Blythe: I beg to differ with you, Miss Channing. I have spoken with several prominent citizens of Baltimore (sifts through notes) ah here, a Mr. Callaway says, “Heaton is nothing but a scoundrel, the worst sort of wanton, prowling beast who drinks and gambles away everything he owns. He is not to be trusted with a penny, let alone a privateer.”
Cassandra (shifting eyes nervously): But. . .
Blythe (finding another note): And a Miss Kathleen Pimberton who says, “Luke Heaton is a threat to every decent lady in town. Mothers should be warned to hide their daughters whenever he is around.”
Cassandra (swallows hard): Hearsay, sir. Nothing but hearsay. Besides what choice do I have?
Blythe (offering most charming smile): You could marry, Miss Channing. A lovely lady as yourself would have no difficulty finding a suitor, say a man with an excellent, stable job and who is good with words.
Cassandra (ignoring him): I fail to see why women must be forced to marry out of sheer financial necessity. Why can we not invest our money in the same businesses as men?
Blythe (stifles a laugh with a cough): Surely you prefer the virtuous role of wife and mother to any business endeavor that would tax your feminine intellectual and physical capacity.
Cassandra (tapping foot on ground): Tax my. . .of all the. . .! You forget yourself, sir. Though I do hope to marry someday, both my mind and my will do not, no, can not permit me to limit myself to sewing and cooking.
Blythe (frowning): I understand your mother plans to arrange a match between you and Mr. Crane?
Cassandra: Mr. Crane is an insolent oaf. Wait don’t print that.
Blythe (writing it down): What of Luke Heaton?
Cassandra: What of him, sir?
Blythe: Some say his charms are irresistible to women. Some say he is the male version of a Siren, luring women into his trap with charm and enchanting flatteries and then destroying them.
Cassandra (huffs uncomfortably): I assure you, sir. I have no trouble resisting Mr. Heaton.
Cassandra: Why are you smiling? Oh bother. . . (looks away)
Blythe: Word about town is you are quite smitten with him. (raises eyebrow) That you were seen kissing him.
Cassandra (redfaced): That is an outrageous lie!
Blythe: What will you do when he absconds with both your investment, your ship, and your heart, Miss Channing?
Cassandra (narrowing eyes): My heart is not at risk, sir. And if the other should happen, I will deal with the problem then.
Blythe (covering Cassandra’s hand with his and grinning seductively): If things should come to that, I shall be happy to step in as the new town rogue if that is what pleases you.
Cassandra (tugging hand from beneath his): Mr. Blythe, this is highly unprofessional and truly beyond the pale. (Rising and walking away) This interview is concluded.
Thank you Cassandra,Mr. Blythe, and MaryLu for visiting with us today..What a wonderful, and informative interview Ms. Channing…
