MBA: Why Write Romance?
CE: Since I began writing full-time five years ago, I’ve been asked by various people, “Why do you write romances?”
My answer is simple…because I love guaranteed happy endings.
There are no promises of happy endings in real life. There is sickness and death and reports on the news about muggings every evening. Sometimes, you need to escape that real world. Sometimes, you need the promise of more.
Romance gives me that “more” promise.
Sure, my books are dark, don’t get me wrong. My Deadly series (DEADLY FEAR, DEADLY HEAT, and DEADLY LIES) are actually some of the darkest books that I’ve ever written. In my romantic suspenses, FBI agents with the Bureau’s elite Serial Services Division spend their days and nights tracking down and apprehending serials—killers, rapists, and arsonists. The books contain death and violence BUT…when readers pick these books up, they know that I won’t leave them hanging at the end of my tales. My heroes and heroines prevail. Good triumphs. And, yes, my FBI agents do receive their happy endings.
Guaranteed. Sometimes, I wish we could get that guarantee in real life!
When I wrote DEADLY HEAT, I created a heroine who had once been offered a happy ending in life. She’d been all set to marry her prince charming, but then a killer stole her lover from her. Now, Lora Spade is a fire fighter who wants vengeance, and she won’t stop until she takes out the Phoenix arsonist. Lora isn’t looking for another chance at happiness. Revenge is all she wants.
It’s not all she gets. When FBI Agent Kenton Lake comes on the scene, he partners with Lora to stop the arsonist. They don’t count on falling for each other. They don’t count on love growing from the ashes.
But it does.
And they get their happy ending—guaranteed.
I appreciate you taking the time to find out why I enjoy writing and reading romances so much. It’s been a pleasure posting at My Book Addiction and More. Now I’m curious…what’s your favorite type of book to read? Why?

Six months after her lover died in an arsonist’s blaze, firefighter Lora Spade calls in the FBI’s elite Serial Services Division to track the elusive killer. When Special Agent Kenton Lake is lured into a violent inferno, Lora pulls him to safety and is stunned – not by the fire, but by her own searing attraction to Kent. For the first time in months, she longs for something other than vengeance.
Kenton’s interest in Lora should be purely professional. But one fleeting kiss and he can’t get her out of his mind. Her combination of strength and vulnerability makes him want to protect her, and that means solving this case – and fast. For even the passion igniting between them can’t hide a terrifying truth: Lora is the next target in a murderer’s sadistic, fiery game.
