Today it is my great pleasure to welcome author Jennifer Haymore for a visit and giveaway.
Thank you for being a guest at My Book Addiction and More.
Thanks so much for having me!
MBA: Let’s start with your newest release, in your own words can you tell us about it, who are the characters, what is their conflict or what must they face?
Jennifer Haymore: Lady Rebecca is widowed, but to call her marriage “bad” would be an understatement of enormous proportions! With her rocky past, she finds it nearly impossible to trust anyone ever again. Then she meets Jack Fulton, and when he proposes marriage to her, she has the choice of accepting him and trusting him or throwing herself and her family back into the throes of scandal.
Jack Fulton is a famous bad boy and a scoundrel whose main goal in life is to return to his home and live free of suspicion. But he’s being blackmailed—someone is going to release some serious allegations about Jack unless he pays him off. But Jack needs money in order to do that. What better way to get some quick cash than to marry a wealthy sister of a duke?
But in Rebecca, Jack gets way more than he bargained for. She’s smart, she’s beautiful, and before he knows it, he’s falling in love. But watch out, because sooner or later, Becky is going to discover his original intentions…
To me, A Season of Seduction is the story of a woman finding her inherent strength and confidence, and ultimately her place in the world, something I think a lot of women struggle with.
MBA: Where did you get the idea for this story?
JH: A Season of Seduction was really inspired by the heroine, Lady Rebecca, who was a young, foolish, and altogether weak secondary character in my first two books (A Hint of Wicked and A Touch of Scandal). I brainstormed for days about the best way for Becky to earn her happily ever after. First and foremost, I knew she needed to grow up and change, and I knew I needed a powerful catalyst for her to do that. That catalyst came in the form of Jack Fulton, who is nothing of what Becky thinks he is at first but ends up being the perfect mate for her.
MBA: Is this story related to any others? If so how, and must we read them in order? Will there be more?
JH: This story is related to my first two books, A Hint of Wicked and A Touch of Scandal, but knowledge of those books isn’t necessary at all for reading A Season of Seduction.
MBA: How has your life change since becoming published?
JH: I’m a lot busier now than I was before! Before I wrote stories on my own time, but now with deadlines always looming, my time is much more valuable, and much more strictly regimented. I’m always wishing the days had more hours!
MBA: What has been your biggest challenge in your writing career?
JH: That would probably be training my brain (or muse) to respond to my deadlines. My instinctual reaction when I’m being “forced” to do something in a certain time period is to shut down. But I can’t shut down when I’m on deadline—in fact, I need to work harder! So I’ve had to hone my discipline, and even when I go kicking and screaming, I have to force myself into that chair and onto that keyboard and just get the work done.
MBA: I would like to ask how you handled writing, life and dealing with cancer?
JH: Honestly, the last six months haven’t been the easiest months of my life. I didn’t get much writing done, and thankfully, my wonderful publisher rearranged my deadlines and my release schedule. I wasn’t too sick to work, but my brain just wasn’t willing to write. So I ended up doing other things, like edits and promotional tasks, that didn’t require as much brain power as writing.
Without the support of my colleagues and my friends, I don’t know how I would’ve gotten through it, though. I’m so thankful for everyone’s support and positive thoughts.
